Over the past three years in training with Sandi Stern, I have not only learned about the Readers Writers Workshop Model, but my teaching level has been elevated. Sandi’s style of teaching is thorough, well thought out, always well-planned and executed. However, where I benefited most from the training was the inspiration Sandi gave me to become a better teacher. Simply put, she makes me want to be my best. Sandi has given me the tools to help my students grow and learn and, hopefully, love reading and writing. Her friendly and caring personality made it easy to open up and really take a good look at our teaching methods. We became a closer team because of the relaxed atmosphere we were working in, which is a huge value to our school and our students. When teachers are told they will be spending numerous days in training, the truth is we usually are less than enthusiastic. After the first meeting with Sandi, I knew this would be an experience I would enjoy, learn from, grow from and value. Sandi Stern is excellent at what she does, and she has left little pieces of herself in my classroom as I utilize her tools daily.

Sandi Stern has worked very effectively with our elementary and middle school teachers, deepening their understanding of the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop, over the past 3 years. She is a consummate professional–prepared, organized, responsive, collaborative and knowledgeable. She has been very successful in building the relationship critical to working with teachers through her authentic experience, understanding of content, affable nature and true respect for the skills and experience our own teachers bring to the learning process. She is able to personally connect with teachers of varied experience and grade levels–a characteristic which sets her apart from “one-shot” professional development presenters, helping them to embrace what is possible for enhancing their literacy practice in meaningful ways.
